Call for Applications: Winter School of the Doctoral Academy "Business and Leadership Ethics"

Our first Winter School on Business Ethics - Normative Arguments and Practical Implications is taking place from October 5th - 9th, 2025 in Wittenberg, Germany.

This Winter school, generously funded by the KSG Foundation, offers doctoral candidates a platform to advance their research, engage with renowned scholars, and foster meaningful connections between theoretical inquiry and practical application within the fields of business, and leadership ethics. It is part of our Doctoral Academy, an initiative hosted by the Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics (WCGE) and the Friede Springer Chair of Business Ethics and Management Accounting (MLU). For a deeper look into the Doctoral Academy, make sure to check out our brochure.

What to expect

Our winter school is designed to provide young researchers with a strong foundation in business ethics research within normative contexts. Our goal is to support young researchers in identifying research questions interesting to both normative researchers and practitioners alike, and learn how to successfully present them. Crucially, participants will be given training on how to present their work in poster-form - as well as the opportunity to present their research at our conference, The Is & Ought of Business Ethics, running in parallel. Participants will be guided through the process of developing their own research ideas, with an emphasis on how to ask—and answer—questions with ethical and societal relevance, and how to communicate them to diverse audiences. Beyond normative relevance, the course also emphasizes the importance of real-world application

Participants will benefit from:

  • State-of-the art lectures from experts in the field
  • Workshops designed to equip participants with the tools to further their own research
  • Opportunities for scholarly exchange with doctoral candidates and professional experts from various disciplines
  • The opportunity to earn 6 ECTS credits
  • Accommodation, (most) meals and program being covered
  • A serene and stimulating setting, fostering both intellectual growth and personal reflection
  • Be part of a supportive community and join our alumni network
