The doctoral program offers its doctoral students a diverse study program that they attend whilst writing their PhD theses. The study program promotes their research activities thematically and methodologically, helps them to become aware of questions of theory-practice transfer, and broadens their research horizons.

The study program examines the thematic focus of the doctoral program from different perspectives: from an economical as well as from a philosophical perspective; from a conceptual as well as an empirical perspective; from a theoretical-scientific as well as from a practical, application-oriented perspective. It gives the doctoral students the possibility to discuss questions about their research projects and about scientific work and publishing in general with experienced researchers. The program also gives them the opportunity to talk with representatives of internationally operating companies and of NGOS, and with politicians about concrete questions regarding good leadership and sustainable, responsible management. Finally, it supports the networking of the doctoral students with one another.

The teaching and working language of the study program is English. Most of the study program takes place at the WCGE in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Some courses and meetings are also offered at the MLU Halle-Wittenberg and the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management.

The study program is mandatory. It consists of core courses, electives, jour fixe, research colloquia, and mini colloquia.

    For more detailed information see:

    [accordion activeIndex=""]

    [item title="Core Courses"]
The core courses impart theoretical foundations of business, corporate and leadership ethics, and inspire an in-depth reflection on these topics. The WCGE offers at least three core courses per semester. Each course is worth 5 ECTS credits. Each doctoral student has to successfully attend four core courses within the first two years of the program.
    [/item]

    [item title="Electives"]
Electives are courses that the doctoral students can attend at their home university or another university/institution in order to gain content-related and methodological knowledge that is relevant for their research. Each elective is worth 5 ECTS credits. Each doctoral student has to attend three electives within the first two years of the program. Alternatively, he/she can participate in a third field project.
    [/item]

    [item title="Jour Fixe"]
The jour fixes connect the second pillar of the program, the study program, with its third pillar, the dialogue platform. Guests from academia, business, politics, or NGOs are invited to a jour fixe. They discuss the questions that arise in their working contexts regarding the topic of good leadership and sustainable management with the doctoral students, and present their approaches to these questions. The WCGE organizes five jour fixes per semester. In their first and second year, doctoral students are required to attend at least nine jour fixes per year. In their third year, doctoral students must attend at least six jour fixes per year.
    [/item]

    [item title="Research Colloquium"]
Each semester, a research colloquium takes place. One of the supervising professors chairs the colloquium. Here, the doctoral students present their dissertation projects and their progress. Each doctoral student has to present twice at a research colloquium during his/her time in the doctoral program.
    [/item]

    [item title="Mini Colloquium"]
The mini colloquia take place in course of a jour fixe. Here, the doctoral students can present parts of their dissertation projects and can discuss them with their fellow students and the academic head of the doctoral program. Each doctoral student has to present twice at a mini colloquium during his/her time in the doctoral program.
